Aberavon finished in the top five of the Premiership for the third successive season by finishing fourth in the Principality Building Society Premiership in 2005-06.
The Wizards made a great start to the season by winning 10 of their first 11 matches. This included a 7 match winning streak and a first win at Pontypool in 25 years. The Wizards found themselves in second spot in the table. However, three defeats in December, including a 31 - 23 reverse at the Gnoll on Boxing Day infront of a record crowd of 7,198, saw the Wizards slip to fourth.
Aberavon bounced back though with six wins, including a 33 - 31 cup win at Ebbw Vale and their first league win at the Brewery Field on the eve of the Six Nations Championship.
Newport came to Aberavon in the cup with the Wizards favourites to win having beaten the Black and Ambers 39 - 7 in the Premiership earlier in the season. However, the Gwent side claimed a 15 - 7 win and relieved the homeside of a 12 month 20 successive game unbeaten record.
Injuries took their toll on the Wizards towards the end of the season with their push for a top two finish faltering. Despite that, to finish fourth considering the injury crises was a huge achievement for the squad.
During the season Jamie Davies (2,605 points) jumped above Neil Jenkins and Byron Hayward
(2,535 points) in the all time league points standing. Only Jason
Williams (3,225 points) is ahead of the Wizards outside half. Meanwhile,
wing Daran Griffiths took is club try tally to 124, just one short of Johnny Ring's
84 year old record.
