Wizards in the Community

The Wizards are inspired by community involvement and believe that engaging positively in the community is an integral part being a Wizard. Aberavon RFC are proactive in the schools with the Wizards in the Community programme and is delivered to the Port Talbot community. This is delivered through a community officer and it is important that other members of the playing squad also interact with the schools, children and families within the community.

The Wizards are a semi-professional club and the majority of the players have full time jobs working 9-5 or have shift patterns. However, the players at the club are forever giving up their time away from work to be involved in the community and specifically the schools. The players work long hours, train in the evenings and play rugby on the weekends.

The Wizards are more than just a rugby club offering services directly with rugby and rugby coaching. Aberavon have been involved in reading weeks, math tutorials, healthy eating seminars and motivational talks. We can also attend award ceremonies and much more. If you would like The Wizards help with any promotions in your schools/clubs then please do not hesitate to contact us, you can reach Chris Davies at chris.davies@aberavonwizards.co.uk or alternatively on 07500861744. The boys embrace a coffee and cake morning.

If there is a particular player you want to attend at your event/school/club please let us know and we can arrange this.

We can arrange/and much more:

* Reading classes [showing children the importance of reading – we do not teach how to read]

* Numeracy and Literacy Workshops [using rugby as a learning tool]

* Healthy Eating Workshops – importance of eating healthy and engaging in physical activity [food groups, understanding food labels and choosing the right foods]

* Motivational speaking [to a level where sporting success can help learning, help with confidence, and show the importance of balancing learning and playing sport]

NOTE: Aberavon RFC do not claim to be teachers, although members of the playing squad are qualified teachers. We like to share experiences, knowledge and provide male role models to children.
