Community Rugby : Overview

Rugby Development
The Welsh Rugby Union in partnership with Neath Port Talbot County Borough
Council are aiming to provide opportunities for individuals, groups and
teams to participate through the game of rugby via your community.
Clubs and schools are being encouraged to form links together in order
that rugby can be used as a vehicle for the community, to make individuals
active and enjoy healthier lifestyles.
The WRU are hoping through their Community rugby mission statement
"To increase participation and to improve standards"
The development officer can assist with this by
Club Development
- Recruitment evenings to set up new teams, or additional
numbers.
- Afan Nedd District Junior Association U8’s – U16’s teams.
Funding
- Working with local clubs and offering assistance on completion
of Grant Aid information.
- Funding evenings linked with local authority grants officer.
School Development
- Primary School visits (4 week with a qualification for teacher
in attendance).
- Links with outside bodies ie Urdd, District Schools etc
- Cluster group Festivals
- Comprehensive School visits and Festivals.
Coach Education
Courses are run regionally at Llandarcy Academy of Sport contact Osprey

Working with Volunteers
- Recruitment of volunteers to working within clubs and schools
Player Development
- Positional/Unit classes held.
- Afan Nedd U12’s – U16’s, training once a week at Llandarcy
Academy of Sport or at other locations around the Borough.
- Club/Schools sessions.
Women and Girls
- The WWRU are looking to increase the playing numbers of women
and girls rugby.
