Old Rivals do Battle to Honour Morris
The Welsh All Blacks, take up cudgels against their old rivals Aberavon RFC at the Talbot Athletic Ground on Tuesday 2nd October 7.15pm, to honour Wizard Stalwart Richard Morris in his Testimonial season. Morris, a former Neath product, joined Aberavon in 1995 straight from the
Gnoll, where he had won Welsh Caps at U’21 and Youth Level. Neath’s loss proved to be Aberavon’s gain, as over the intervening 12 years, Morris has gone on to represent the ‘Blood and Blacks’ over 370 times scoring
127 tries in the process, only one short of equalling the club all time scoring record.
It is testimony to the respect that both clubs have for Morris or ‘George’ as he is affectionately nicknamed, that both sides intend to field full strength teams for their October encounter. ‘Aberavon and Neath games have traditionally been torrid affairs, with no quarter asked or given,’ said Morris, ‘I hope that this will be the same. I’m very honoured that both clubs have agreed to go to war once more on my behalf.’ Wizards’ fans who travelled in the hundreds to watch Morris represent the Barbarians club at Newbury in October, will be hoping for an Aberavon victory with Morris scoring a try to break the club record. |
