Aberavon Invade Wexford...

Next Friday, over 120 players and supporters depart from Pembroke for the 3½ hour ferry crossing to Rosslare. Local tipster Andrew John McRillick assesses the current form of the runners and riders to find out who will be the first to be seasick on the crossing.

Jeff Preece
Odds – even money
This Baglan trained product must be a strong favourite following an easy December victory on this course and distance.
Made a big mistake last time out in the restaurant which he will probably avoid on this crossing – many think he can't be beaten.

Mair John
Odds – 2-1
51 last week and approaching the Autumn of her career. Has won on previous crossings via Fishguard and Dover.
Always a front-runner (in the bar) but usually fades – hates coach journeys as well so could be one to watch.

Dai Owen
Odds – 3-1
The Pontrhydyfen-bred veteran is well travelled and previous wins include Fishguard and the Picton Sea Eagle whilst moored in Swansea Marina (honestly).
Likes the soft ground (again, the bar) but tends to fade when singing stops – hard to beat if weather turns nasty. Again one to keep an eye on.

Others to Watch
(so I'm told)
Paul and Marc Breeze, Ian Moore (all three tipped by Liam Gadd)
Helen and Jon Nightingale

On a more serious note, this trip would not be possible without the following people:

  • Jeff Preece and Dennis Morgan for organising the whole trip from start to finish – on behalf of everyone travelling our sincere thanks.

  • Rob and Ceri Harwood for their sponsorship of the players' bus for the weekend – again many thanks.

  • Terry and Yvonne MacSweeney (Wexford) for their help and support – thank you.

Andrew John
