Aberavon take on Cross Keys in the Principality Building
Society Premiership this coming Saturday at the Talbot
Athletic Ground, kick off 2:30pm. |
The Gwent side have won four and drawn one of
their nine league games this season and are currently eight in
the table, one place below the Wizards.
The Keys wins have come at home to Bridgend and Llandovery and
away to the Wanderers and Pontyrpidd. Their draw came at Maesteg.
Away from home Cross Keys have only lost one game this season,
losing 19 - 12 at the Gnoll against Neath.
Head-to-head Aberavon and Cross Keys have faced each other 26
times in the Welsh National League with the Wizards leading the
series by 18 wins to 6 with 2 games drawn. At the Talbot
Athletic Ground Aberavon have won 10 and drawn 1 and have won
the last 6 games there.
Last seasons game saw the Wizards halt a four match losing run
with a hard-earned 29 - 27 win, but were made to battle until
the final whistle after a late rally from the visitors
threatened to overturn what had been a commanding lead.
Extensive use of the Aberavon bench in the second half saw the
Wizards’ game lose its shape and a 26 - 10 lead going into the
final quarter was whittled away as Cross Keys took advantage of
the disruption, scoring 17 late points as the home side could
only add a Jamie Davies penalty in reply.
Aberavon's points came via tries from Man of the Match Chris
Morgans and Richard Carter while Jamie Davies kicked 19 points.
The Wizards team that day was: Liam Gadd; Richard Carter, John
Leyshon, Darren Ryan (rep Richard Thomas), Paul Bamsey; Jamie
Davies, Chris Morgans (rep Rob Lewis); Neil White (rep Mike
Harris), Marc Breeze (rep Chris Wells), Anthony Edwards (rep
James Jones), Andrew Fisher, Chris Gittins (capt), Ian Moore
(rep James Davies), Robbie Morgan (rep Richard Morris), Darryl
Thomas.
The referee for Saturday's game is Leighton Hodges, aided by
touch judges Alan Shepherd and Leighton James.
