Wizards Bag 11 Tries For Starters
Aberavon opened their rugby season by winning 61-14 at
Cwmavon.In a match of three 30-minute periods, the midfield trio of James
Garland, Liam Gadd and Darren Ryan excelled early on and new signing Gavin
Hooper had a fine game at scrum-half.
Cwmavon notched two tries - the second a penalty try - and won the last
period by 7-5 as both sides tired in the heat.
After the first period it was 19-0 with triallist wing Nick Hobson having
notched the first of the 11 Aberavon touchdowns, though only three were
converted.
The second period brought a 37-7 count with wing Richard Carter completing
his hat-trick and Garland notched the final try after a long solo run.
Aberavon tries came from R. Carter (3), L. Gadd (2), N. Hobson, J.
Leyshon, A. Edwards, Ricky Thomas, M. Bennett and J. Garland with Garland
converting three of them.
