Aberavon will be aiming to build on last weekend's performance when they welcome Llandovery to the Talbot Athletic Ground in the Principality Building Society Premiership this coming Saturday, kick off 2:30pm. |
While the Wizards were gaining their first win at Swansea in 18 years, Llandovery lost 20 - 8 at home to Bridgend. Despite losing 10 - 0 at the break, the Drovers rallied with a try from lock Matthew Harbut and a penalty from outside half Rob Evans early in the second half. However, when home prop Craig Cross was sent off a minute after coming on as a replacement
for stamping, the game began to drift away for the Drovers with the Ravens going on to score a further 10 points.
Head-to-head Aberavon and Llandovery have faced each other 24 times in the Welsh National League with the Wizards leading the series by 20 wins to 4. At the Talbot Athletic Ground Aberavon lead 10 to 2 with the Drovers last win at the ground coming eleven seasons ago.
Last seasons game saw Aberavon gain five league points as they beat the battling Llandovery side 5 - 2 on try count and 42 - 26 on the scoreboard. The Wizards started strongly taking a 12 - 0 lead within 7 minutes as Marc Breeze and Darryl Thomas scored tries with Jamie Davies converting the latter. However, Gareth Morgan kicked four successive penalties to draw level by the 22nd minute. Davies replied with a penalty, try (his 99th league try) and conversion to extend the homesides lead once more before the Drovers hit straight back with a Darren Daniel try. Morgan converted to make the score 22 - 19 to the hosts at half time.
Chris Davies scored early in the second half for Jamie Davies to convert to put the Wizards ten points infront. However, on the hour mark Llandovery hit back again thanks to a try from Gareth James and two points from the boot of Morgan. In the last quarter Aberavon had the last say with Jamie kicking two penalties and converting a try from Chris Wells.

If Jamie Davies plays and scores six points then he'll reach the 3000 mark for Aberavon in all games. If Chris Gittins plays it will be his 200th game for the club.
The referee for Saturday's game is Jon Mason, aided by touch judges Martyn Lewis and Peter Evans.
