24.08.2011 - Update from Simon King regarding Tipuric & Pre-Season

From everyone in the squad we're all absolutely delighted with Justin Tipuric's first cap against Argentina last Saturday.

He follows Ryan Bevington as the most recent Wizards to be selected for Wales. It is a fantastic achievement and in the modern era an indication of Aberavon's continuing contribution to Welsh rugby.

I first coached Justin at Under 18 level and his attitude, commitment and natural ability stood him out as a potential Regional player. To his great credit he has embraced every challenge to come his way and gone on to Senior national honours.

He's a level headed young man and after talking to him on Sunday knows that it is only the start of his career and the values he gained whilst wearing the Wizards jersey will only stand him in good stead as he continues to develop as a player and a person. It's where he started his senior career and he'll never forget that.

He and Ryan can become positive role models for all players in the squad and an indication of what is possible. It also strengthens the ties between us and the Ospreys showing that we can work together in producing the next generation of Welsh internationals. That's our job and responsibility to every player, to make them better and achieve their ambitions - whatever they are. Well done, we're all very proud of you.

We head off to Bonymaen on Saturday for our final, difficult pre-season fixture. The others against Ding Crusaders and Moseley have been useful workouts and probably given us more questions than answers, but that's precisely what we need before the league campaign begins.

The majority of the squad have worked extremely hard this summer and must now be prepared to increase their workload and prepare for the marathon challenge of 36 fixtures ahead of them.
